Only Gubernatorial Candidate "Enormously Grateful" for Support
Michelle Lujan Grisham’s 2018 gubernatorial campaign is off to a rousing start.
In the first few months of the campaign, Lujan Grisham has raised $892,000 in campaign contributions, her campaign said Monday.
That money came from more than 4,000 donors, about three-quarters of whom are from New Mexico, the campaign said.
Lujan Grisham, a Democrat who announced last year that she was giving up her 1st District Congressional seat to run for governor, said she was pleased with having raised so much money in such a short period of time.
“I am enormously grateful for the outpouring of support for my campaign in the few short months since I announced my candidacy for Governor,” Lujan Grisham said. “We have tapped into a groundswell of support from New Mexicans who want real leadership in the Governor’s Office.
“I was the first to jump in the race because I recognized the energy and hunger for change in our state. New Mexicans want a governor who doesn’t sit on the sidelines while the economy spirals downward and families struggle to get ahead.”
Gov. Susana Martinez, a Republican, can’t run again because of term limits.
So far, Lujan Grisham is the only candidate to announce for governor.
